"Special Education is a Service, Not a Place"

In order to receive special education services, a student must have a documented disability that negatively impacts or interferes with their access to general education programs. The Committee on Special Education (CSE), following a multidisciplinary evaluation, determines eligibility. Once a referral is made to CSE, this evaluation is provided by the school district at no cost to parents. It is strongly suggested before a referral is made to CSE, that the child be referred to the building Child Study Team in order to ensure that all regular education interventions are tried before referring to CSE. This can be done by contacting your child's teacher, the building psychologist, or a guidance counselor.

To refer your child directly to the Committee on Special Education, send a letter requesting an evaluation and outlining your concerns to:
