Universal PreKindergarten (3PK or UPK) provides an opportunity for all three and four year olds to be enrolled in an exciting preschool program.
UPK enables parents, childcare providers, preschool special education programs, nursery schools, community based organizations and other early childhood programs to work in collaboration with the Auburn Enlarged City School District to develop and implement high quality educational programs for resident three and four year olds.

Why enroll your child in a District Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program?
Research indicates that quality pre-kindergarten experiences promote academic success and greater achievement in school. Young children are at their most optimal age for learning.

Which three or four year olds are eligible to enroll in a Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program?
Any Auburn resident who is three (3) or four (4) years old on or before December 1st of the current school year is eligible to apply.

What is the cost to send my child to a Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program?
The Universal PreKindergarten Program is state funded. There is no cost for eligible children to attend.

Are there selection criteria for the program?
Applications are accepted for a set period of time. If during that time the District receives more applicants than there are slots available, children will be randomly selected. Site placement will be determined on the basis of daycare, financial income, and parental choice.  Once selected, placement is not guaranteed at a specific site nor can a child's placement be changed once they are officially enrolled.

Is the Universal PreKindergarten Program mandatory for all three and four year olds?
Universal Pre-Kindergarten is an entitlement program. It is not mandatory for parents to enroll their child in the program. However, if a child is enrolled, regular attendance is expected.
